The Golden Sphere

Plaster, Summer 2026

for “Roadside Picnic” by Seafoam Palace

A robed figure holding an empty vessel. The hollow of the vessel extends into the figure's body. The figure has emptied themselves out, and in doing so, found that there was a part of themselves that they couldn't reach to compromise or give away. That part is still good and whole because of, not despite, their inability to reach it.

The piece was designed for, and cast in, the Humbolthain Flakturn in Berlin for the Long Night of the Museum 2026. The partition of the robe on the figure's right shoulder and the work lines on the face follow the crack in the ceiling, and the figure sees the same chasm in the ground and small aperture in the wall that you do.

I never sold my soul to anyone! ... You take from me what it is I want ... it just can't be that I would want something bad!
